Wrongful Death
"Wrongful death" is the death of a person caused by the negligence or wrongful act of another. Wrongful death cases arise from auto accidents, boat accidents or airplane accidents; medical negligence; unreasonably dangerous products; work-related injuries caused by exposure to dangerous conditions or substances; criminal attacks; and supervised activities, such as sports and school activities.
When a loved one unexpectedly dies in an auto accident, boat accident or airplane accident, while a patient in a hospital or nursing home, or while at work, family members are left in shock. On many occasions, one of our most difficult challenges is determining whether the family member died naturally, from an Act of God, or because of some other person's or entity's negligence or wrongful act.
The family of a person who is wrongfully killed may recover damages in a civil action brought against the person or entity whose negligent or wrongful act caused your family member's death.
Washington State has a wrongful death statute, which requires the knowledge of a skilled lawyer to successfully navigate. Wrongful death cases are usually brought on behalf of the deceased by the surviving spouse, child or parent.
