Boating Safety Tips

  • Always wear a personal flotation device (life jacket)
  • Don't drink while boating even if you're not the boat operator
  • Don't jump in shallow water
  • Check weather conditions and the forecast
  • Don't change places in small boats except on shore
  • Get a Boating Safety Education Card as required by law (click here for more information)
  • Maintain your boat in a sea worthy condition
  • Drive your boat at or below the posted speed limit
  • Carry safety equipment including a VHF radio and flares
  • Let a friend or relative know your boating plan including destination, departure and return time
